Question about Hard Contact Lenses

Posted by admin - May 16th, 2013

Q: What are the benefits of wearing hard contact lenses?
Hard contact lenses are quite uncomfortable to wear, but there are still many people choosing it. What are the benefits of wearing hard contact lenses?

A: There are many advantages of wearing hard contact lenses. One of them is that hard contact lenses provide sharpness of vision, thus people who wear hard contact lenses can see things clearly. Another one of hard contact lenses is that they work well in correcting astigmatism. Most individuals who have astigmatism, whether mild or extreme, can wear hard contact lenses to help correct astigmatism. Besides, hard contact lenses are comfortable to wear though it takes time to get used to them. But once you get used to hard contact lenses, you will find them rather comfortable to wear.    Learn more answers.

Q: What are hard contact lenses made of?

I just wonder what material are hard contact lenses made of?

A: Hard contact lenses are made of PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) polymer. The advantages of hard contact lenses are: difficult to change, longer life, easier cleaning and maintenance. The disadvantages are: less comfortable to wear, long adaptation period. The rigid gas-permeable?RGP?is very common, it is made of flexible colloidal material, it has all the advantages of hard contact lenses, and has a higher rate of oxygen permeability, but the price is relatively high.   Learn more answers.

Q: How to take care of hard contact lenses?

I have a pair of hard contact lenses. Can you tell me how to take good care of it in order to make it last for a longer time?

A: You can combine a disinfection or storage solution and a cleaning solution, or use a single bottle of multipurpose solution for cleaning, disinfecting and storage of contacts. The initial way to clean it is using tap water, which was also approved by FDA. Always wash your hands with warm water and soap before handling your contacts or before touching your eyes. Dry your hands with a clean towel.  Learn more answers.

Soft Contact Lenses

Posted by admin - May 8th, 2013

Q: How long do you have to change your soft contacts?
I have Acuve Oasys soft contacts, and I have to change them before the 2-week expired time. How long do you have to change your soft contacts?

A: The eye doctor may tell you to change your contatcs every 2-3 weeks. I often change my contacts every 2 weeks. However, I think you should consult your optometrist and ask him/her for advice. Remember not wear them if they are without the recommended time, otherwise it may cause eye infections. Learn more answers

Q: What would happen if I accidentally wore soft contacts to sleep?
Sometimes I just forgot to take my contacts off before sleeping, so what would happen if I accidentally wore soft contacts to sleep? Would it harm my eyes?

A: If the soft contacts are not designed for day and night use, your eyes will end up being very dry and lack of oxygen. You may have swollen eyes in the morning. If you don’t want to take the trouble of taking them off before sleeping, you can choose the RGP contacts which have a better oxygen permeability.  Learn more answers.

Q: Whats the difference between Hard and soft Contacts?

I’m contemplating on getting some contacts, but don’t know the difference between Hard and soft Contacts .And how do you get them in and out of your eye

A: For my experience, soft contacts are made of plastic-like material and are much more comfortable to wear and they are the best choice for most people. Hard lenses are uncomfortable and can fall out easily. But there are also some advantages over the soft lenses. They have better oxygen permeability than the soft ones and much easier to care. They can be used as long as 3 years if cared properly. Also they do a better job in vision correction than soft ones. For first time wearer ,it is better to choose the soft contacts as they are easy to get used to.  Learn more answers.

Contact Lenses Solution Using Tips

Posted by admin - April 23rd, 2013

Q:What to do if you don’t have contact lens solution?
I just run out of my contact lenses solution today. But i have contact lenses and wear them everyday. I just wonder is there anything can replace contact lens solution? What to do if you don’t have contact lens solution?

A: If you come home late and find the eyeglasses shops are closed, you have to find another thing to take place of the solution. The best and direct way is to use the mineral water which should better be new mineral water, with no bacterium. The egg white water is not good which may cause the eyes get inflammation. In addition, the saline will make the contact lenses dehydrated. You’d better soak the contact lenses into the pure mineral water. Learn more answers.

Q: What can i use instead of contact lens solution ?
I just run out of my contact lenses. What shall i do? Is there anything that i can use instead of contacts solution?

A: There is something you can use instead of contact solution when you run out of it. The alternatives are saline solution, distilled water and salt water. Like contact lenses solution, the saline solution is also a disinfectant solution and will not cause damage to contact lenses. Since it is sterile, it can cleanse the surface smudges of the contact lenses. Distill water can be used to store and clean contact lenses, for it has no acanthamoeba keratitis that is harmful to the eyes thus more applicable than the tap water. You can even use salt water to clean and store your contact lenses. Salt water can be got by putting a certain amount of salt into tap water. None of these alternatives can be used in long term. So you should buy a bottle of contact lenses solution as soon as possible.     Learn more answers.

Q: Is it okay to use expired contact lens solution?

Can i use expired contact lens solution? Is it bad for my contact lenses and my eyes?

A: It is not advisable and it is not safe as well. Your know, there are some chemical components that can help us to clean the lenses, including our eyes. When the solutions are expired, they will begin to degrade. Of course, how fast do they degrade will depend on the brand you but and the quality. If the solutions degrades, the PH level, which is optimal before the expiration date, will come to unstable and then the solutions will be more likely to get acidic. If you use the solution mentioned above, you will get eye infection , itchy eyes and irritated eyes. You know we are not the pros, so we do not know what to do when our eyes are ill when used the expired solution. All in all, you had better not the expired solution. Learn more answers.

Gas Permeable (GP) Contact Lenses

Posted by admin - September 12th, 2012

Also named as GP lenses, rigid gas permeable lenses, RGP lenses and oxygen permeable lenses, gas permeable contact lenses are a type of rigid lenses which are made of oxygen-transmitting durable plastic. Most people may have heard and worn the old-fashioned hard contact lenses which are made of PMMA. Totally different from the outdated hard contact lenses, GP lenses are more advanced as they offer us more eye health and they are easier to clean and handle. Another distinctive point of GP lenses is their remarkable durability.

Why are GP lenses so out of the ordinary?

1. Special oxygen permeability

The craftsmanship of GP lenses has exploited gas permeable contacts that were first introduced in the 1970s. Acknowledged as better, those soft lenses, rigid GP lenses, incorporated by a type of more flexible material called silicone, are well accepted to be comfortable and cozy to wear. Moreover, the most distinctive feature of GP lenses is being oxygen permeable. Oxygen is free to pass through GP lenses and in this way our eyes are better protected and in a more comfortable position. Oxygen is not merely critical to our life force but also functions as our eye protector and savior simply via GP lenses.

2. Stronger practicability

When we say GP lenses are of stronger practicability, we actually mean that they can be custom made for every one and they are particularly durable and resistant. Whatever your cornea shape and prescription are, GP lenses can be uniquely made right for your unique curvature, size and corrective power. With the increasing improvement of contact glasses manufacturing, GP lenses are boasted to be thinner, larger and smoother in the edge. All these progressions made in GP lenses ensure wearers good comfort and crystal clear vision.

Who are especially in need of GP lenses?

GP lenses are in general fit for every individual, but at the same time they are more than ever suitable to those who feel uneasy with the obsolete soft lenses.

1. People who are in pursuit of high-quality vision can resort to GP lenses.

2. GP lenses can be all the more contributive to correcting astigmatism. People suffering astigmatism can replace their soft contacts with GP lenses which are to provide them with more desired vision acuity.

3. GP lenses can be of bifocal and multifocal design which does good to people with  presbyopia.

4. GP lenses do a big favor to people whose cornea is cone-shaped which causes visual distortion by the use of soft lenses.

5.  People who have just recovered from eye laser surgery can turn to GP lenses for a more safe and comfortable wearing.

Some extra things you should know about GP lenses.

It is a fact that now GP lenses are not as widespread as soft lenses. The main reason is that it will take a period of time for people to adapt to GP lenses while soft lenses are more adaptive and instantly comfortable. Put aside for a few days, GP lenses would not be so easy to wear as before. You will need another adaption period. Moreover, GP lenses are to move on the eye as wearers blink, so it is necessary to be careful of the risk of dust and debris sneaking under the lenses. In short, wearers should be careful about GP lenses because they are expected to last for at least one year.

In fact, contact lenses are a foreign body in our eyes. A contact lens lies in the top of the cornea and is close to the inner tissue of the eyes. If contact lenses are not prescribed properly, you can’t see clearly. What’s worse, contact lenses with improper prescription may lead to many eye problems such as discomfort, inflammation, swelling and abrasion, etc.

Experts declare that improper contact lenses will give rise to lactic acid build-up within the cornea and then cause swelling. The cells in the cornea will spread apart as long as swelling occurs. If so, it is easier for bacteria and viruses to have access to other spaces in the cornea, which may result in infection. Beside, your eyes may become lack of f oxygen when you wear improper contacts. Due to the oxygen deprivation, new blood steaks are likely to grow into the cornea.

Generally speaking, you must pay much attention to make sure whether your prescription is accurate or not. If your contact lens prescription expires, you shouldn’t buy new lenses until you get an updated prescription. You’d better have a checkup by your eye care professional (ECP) to get the accurate contact lens prescription.

Something about Toric Contact Lens

Posted by sean - December 13th, 2010

Do you know what toric contact lenses are? I didn’t know them either until one day I found I had a blurry vision. I went to the doctor who told that I had astigmatism. With explanation from the doctor, I came to be aware that astigmatism is one where rays that propagate in two perpendicular planes have different foci, and corrective lenses are needed to get it corrected. However, if you do not want to wear eyeglasses, which constitutes a burden to the wearers, you could choose a special contact lenses designed  for astigmatism correction, called Toric contact lenses.

Compared with regular soft contacts, toric contact lenses have two powers in them, created with curvatures at different angles, one for astigmatism while the other for either myopia or hyperopia. What’s more, they are weighted which enables them to sit on eyes properly and correctly in place. Another feature is that there is a line on the lens near the identifying numbers to indicate the bottom of th lens, therefore, at the very few seconds after you put them on, you would experience discomfort or blurry vision. However, if your blink for sometime, everything would turn out to be ok.

Facing so many different brands, one who firstly comes to contact toric contact lenses would feel puzzled which one to choose. The suggestion is to try one by one to find the most suitable one for you. As a matter of fact, your eye doctor will advise certain brands for you according to you personal eye condition. And those who need a high prescription should choose lighter weight, for heavier ones would restrict oxygen flow to the eye, resulting in dry eye symptoms.

Besides wearing Toric contact lenses, astigmatism patients also have an option of undergoing a surgery. But the problem is that an eye surgery always costs a lot, and not every one is able to afford. What’s more, patients have to take a risk to have a surgery and this may not what one wants.

In my opinion, the best way to keep oneself away from toric contact lenses and eye surgeries is to prevent the emergence of any eye problems. If you, up to now, have a good eyesight and do not have any eye disease, you are suggested to get regular eye examinations every year. And you have to keep doing it, because eyes are constantly changing through out life.

Generally, soft lenses, hard lenses and disposable lenses are the three main forms of contact lenses. Based on their special characteristics, each of these lenses can be used for different period of time. For example, soft lenses can be worn for relatively long time; hard lenses are durable and can be used for much longer than soft lenses. However, disposable lenses must be discarded after wearing for certain period of time. Of course, there are also lenses that can be worn for one week or one month. But all these lenses can only be worn within certain period of time. Of course, all these lenses must be used under the guidance of eye doctors. This is because user’s eye condition determines all.

Moreover, the care and maintenance of contact lenses should never be neglected. In particular, new users should be more careful. It is found that many new users can not get used to lenses in the first few times- they always think there are some foreign objects in their eyes.
